Decryption And Encryption Performance.

Use of the secure sockets layer (SSL) protocol and its newer iteration, transport layer security (TLS), has been on the rise thanks to an ever-increasing need for the security of remote users and web transactions. Modern cybercampaigns frequently focus on attacking users through the most common web protocols and applications, such as social media, where threats can infect an endpoint that is also used for business purposes. NSS Labs continues to receive inquiries from enterprise customers that are assessing SSL/TLS decryption and protection technologies.

As part of its ongoing research and analysis, NSS has found that HTTPS (SSL/TLS-encrypted) traffic grew over 90% year over year from 2015 to 2016— more than 40.5% of websites were encrypting traffic by default in July 2016, vs. only 21.3% of websites in July 2015. Unsurprisingly, 97% of surveyed enterprises are seeing an increase in encrypted web traffic. NSS predicts this trend will continue, with 75% of all web traffic expected to be encrypted by 2019.

This test will be open to various technologies, including next generation firewall (NGFW), next generation intrusion prevention system (NGIPS), secure web gateway (SWG), and breach prevention systems (BPS).
